Toji
The Toji range is our own design and exclusive to Foxes Boxes.
The pieces are made from Douglas Fir [Pseudotsuga menzuesii] grown in managed and sustainable forests in the Scottish Borders. The furniture is made from trees that have reached the end of their lifecycle and are being cut down to clear the way for new plantings. We use these trees as it is an effective method of recycling and enables us to obtain timber that is of sufficient girth to meet our design specifications. No two trees are the same and so each piece has its own unique appearance.
The timber is ‘green’, or unseasoned, and so as it dries back it will crack and split. This does not affect the structural integrity of the piece, but rather adds to its natural character. Teak Oil and other furniture oils can be used to help protect the timber. It can also be stained using tinted furniture oil.
If the pieces are used indoors the splitting and cracking will occur much more quickly as the timber adjusts to the moisture levels of its new surroundings and the effects of central heating. But the natural beauty of the wood creates a unique and stunning piece of furniture in a conservatory, hallway or bedroom.
Currently the range consists of our simple and stylish bench and our tall blocks in various heights. We will soon be extending the range to include a table and stools.
