The Watergardens

The Watergardens was originally planted with bamboo and grasses by the original developers. During the re-furbishment in 1997, the new developers added a central seating area with surrounding borders but by 2001 the bamboo had invaded the turf areas and the majority of the new plants in the borders had died back, been taken over or were in dire need of pruning and shaping.

Foxes Boxes were called in and we worked hard to remove the invasive bamboos from the area and help the residents committee organise re-turfing and the irrigation system.

Once this had been achieved Foxes Boxes undertook the re-planting with the brief to retain the Japanese feel of the garden but bring in more variety to make the garden more welcoming and inclusive for the residents.

At the front border around the pool we added more gravel and larger rocks and we re-introduced bamboo, but the clump forming varieties planted in large containers. Acers, phormium and grasses were also added to retain the Japanese feel. In the middle border more evergreen shrubs were used to begin to build a pleasant seating area for the residents to enjoy all year round. And we re-planted all the raised borders surrounding the garden each of which had to be individually styled for the residents that owned them.

Foxes Boxes continue to work with the residents committee advising their garden representative on various aspects of maintenance to keep their garden beautiful.
